Squid Game has been nominated for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, making it the first time a South Korean show has ever been nominated. Squid Game was nominated for 14 prizes at this year’s ceremony, including several of the most prestigious ones.
The show was also the first to be nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in a category other than English. First-time Korean actors have ever been nominated for acting awards in their individual categories for Squid Game’s cast members.
Lee Yoo Mi Is Nominated for Best Guest Actress.
In the running for Lead Actor in a Drama Series are Lee Jung-Jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, and Jung HoYeon, who plays Kang Sae-book, who plays Kang Sae-book. In addition to Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo, Lee Yoo Mi is nominated for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series and Lee Hae Soo for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama.
Hwang Dong-Hyuk is the first Korean director and writer to be nominated for an Emmy. Outstanding Direction of a Dramatic Series and Outstanding Writing of a Dramatic Series are two categories in which he has been nominated.

Additionally, Squid Game has been nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.
It’s the first time a non-English language show has been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmy Awards, competing against prominent American dramas like “Better Call Saul,” “Euphoria,” “Ozark,” “Severance,” “Stranger Things,” “Succession,” and “Yellowjackets.
Their Respective Categories in The History of Korean Cinema.
In addition, five “Squid Game” actors were nominated for acting honors, making them the first native Korean actors to be recognized in their respective categories in the history of Korean cinema. Both Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon have been nominated for supporting actors in a drama series at this year’s awards.

Director Hwang Dong-Hyuk is the first native Korean to be nominated for both Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series at the Emmys.
