A Massachusetts man has been charged with murder and attempted suicide after reportedly strangling his girlfriend to death in front of her children.
It was revealed by People that Thadius McGrath, 35, killed 31-year-old Samantha Rementer by shooting her in the head at her Holland, Penna., home on June 8.
What Is As the result of Rementer’s death?
As a result of Rementer’s death, he is charged with first-degree and third-degree murder. “After she made him upset,” police say, McGrath acknowledged striking Rementer’s face with a step ladder and a lamp during an interview with detectives from Northampton Township Police and Bucks County District Attorney’s Office. He then allegedly strangled her to death by wrapping the lamp’s cord around her neck. Rementer’s two young girls, ages 4 and 1, are reported to have witnessed the murder and the 4-year-old allegedly said: “Please, please, stop. You’re putting my mother’s life in danger.”
The Bucks County Courier Times states that McGrath was not the father of the two girls, citing members of Rementer’s family. In February 2021, Rementer’s partner died from a heart attack. The complaint alleges that McGrath confessed to strangling Rementer to his father over the phone. According to the complaint, McGrath’s mother requested that police do a check on her son at Rementer’s home following a “potentially suicidal call” from her son.

McGrath was located in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the mouth by police. Nearby, police discovered a handgun as well. McGrath was taken to a hospital where he was treated and eventually recovered.
Matt Weintraub, the Bucks County District Attorney, stated in a press release that he was “very disturbed” by the news “In front of her children, this man killed Ms. Rementer… For his crimes, he will be forced to pay a high price.” There are further accusations against McGrath for deliberately endangering the welfare of a child, endangering another person, and possessing a weapon in addition to the murders.
Bucks County Correctional Facility is holding McGrath without bail. If he pleaded guilty or sought a lawyer to speak on his behalf, it wasn’t immediately clear.
