Crisis Pregnancy Centers in NJ are the Subject of A Consumer Alert

Dr. Kristin Brandi stated that crisis pregnancy clinics, or CPCs, such as Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center in Paterson, actively mislead patients. It is one of more than 50 abortion clinics in New Jersey that advertise on their websites with phrases such as “Considering an abortion? We’re here to help you through an unforeseen pregnancy.”

Critics such as Brandi assert, however, that CPCs have only one objective: “I believe that they intentionally mislead patients in order to deter them from having an abortion… Therefore, if these clinics postpone necessary care, they put people in danger.”

Attorney General of New Jersey Matthew Platkin has recently issued a consumer advisory stating, “Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) do NOT provide abortion care. CPCs are organisations that strive to prevent access to complete reproductive health care, including abortion care and contraception, by giving inaccurate or misleading information.

The facilities contest this. An attorney for some New Jersey CPCs stated, “When they saw the Consumer Alert, they were rather astonished and horrified that they had received any criticism, as they had never had any complaints… They do not feel they participate in dishonesty, therefore this essentially tarnished their brand unfairly.
