According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief, Emily Sotelo hiker from Massachusetts who went missing after setting out on a solo trip over the weekend was located dead in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
Upon returning from a trip up Franconia Ridge on Sunday morning, 20-year-old Emily Sotelo was discovered on the northwest slope of Mount Lafayette in Franconia. Sotelo’s absence from the home at the expected time prompted a family member to file a missing person’s report.
On Sunday morning, Sotelo was brought to the Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia, New Hampshire.

According to authorities, she intended to climb three peaks in the White Mountains of New Hampshire: Mount Lafayette, Haystack, and Flume.
On Sunday night, authorities dispatched three search parties to seek her, but the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team reported that temperatures along the ridge where she was trekking were around zero degrees with gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour.

“The search began on Sunday night and continued through the night as the weather was too severe to risk waiting any longer to start looking. Strong winds, low temperatures, and drifting snow made it difficult for searchers to do their jobs “Wednesday, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief released a joint statement.
Two days into the search for Sotelo, on Tuesday, her footprints and some of her possessions were discovered at the source of Lafayette Brook. The police discovered her remains on Wednesday morning.
According to authorities, a helicopter from the New Hampshire Army National Guard assisted with the transport of Sotelo to the Cannon Mountain Ski Area. No details about the circumstances behind Sotelo’s death were made public.
