Why New Jersey Residents Want More Money From The Government?

As the end of 2022 slowly approaches, some not-so-subtle signs of the times make us feel uneasy and uncertain about what will happen in 2023.

Prices of food and rent are going up, inflation is going up, the economy isn’t stable, and the list goes on. It’s not a secret that New Jersey’s cost of living has gone up a lot in the past year.

So, would an extra $500 help? The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) Assistance Program that will send $500 to more than 60,000 low-income families in New Jersey in the next month.

The stimulus money is supposed to go to people who didn’t get help from the Excluded New Jerseyans Fund, which was set up to help homeless people, people who just got out of jail, and people who live in New Jersey but don’t have papers.

The state’s share of The American Rescue Plan, a relief program started during the health crisis, will pay for the ITIN Assistance Program.

New Jersey residents don’t have to apply for the stimulus payment. Their eligibility will be determined by the information on file from the 2021 tax year. To be eligible, a person must live below the poverty line and have filed their taxes for 2021 with an ITIN. Checks will be sent to the right people.

“A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is a number used by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to help enforce tax laws,” says the IRS. It is given out by either the IRS or the Social Security Administration (SSA).

The SSA gives out a Social Security number (SSN), but the IRS gives out all other TINs.”

At the moment, only one $500 stimulus check is expected to be sent to eligible New Jersey residents. It’s not clear if there will be more payments or more money to help with New Jersey’s rising costs.
