Where Is Patrizia Gucci Now: ‘House Of Gucci’ Fans Want To Know?

If you’ve seen House of Gucci, you may be curious about Patrizia Gucci’s current whereabouts and whether or not she is still alive following her murder conviction and 29-year prison sentence for the death of her husband, Maurizio Gucci, the scion of the Gucci family and the last person in that line to run the storied Italian fashion house.

She entered the world on December 2, 1948, with the name Patrizia Martinelli in the Italian town of Vignola, which is part of the Province of Modena. She had a hard life as a child because she never met her father. Patrizia’s waitress mother married Patrizia’s trucker father when Patrizia was just 12 years old.

Patrizia’s surname became Reggiani after the marriage, as Ferdinando legally adopted her. The fashion firm Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci’s grandson, Maurizio Gucci, whom Patrizia met in 1970. After tying the knot in 1972, Patrizia and Maurizio uprooted to the Big Apple.

Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio’s father, reportedly did not approve of the marriage and called his new daughter-in-law “a social climber who has nothing in mind except money,” yet he nonetheless gave the couple a penthouse in the Olympic Tower in New York City after they were married.

Patrizia was quite the New York socialite, attending parties and fashion shows and even making friends with Jackie Kennedy Onassis, the wife of President John F. Kennedy. Patrizia and Maurizio’s first child, a daughter named Alessandra, was born in 1976. And in 1981, they welcomed their second daughter, Allegra.

It wasn’t until 1982 that Patrizia and Maurizio made their way back to Milan. The couple broke up in 1985 after Maurizio told Patrizia he had to go to Florence, Italy, for work. The following day he had a friend inform Patrizia that he would not be returning and that their marriage was finished.

Maurizio began dating his childhood friend and bridesmaid Patrizia Franchi in 1990. In 1994, Maurizio and Patrizia’s divorce was formalized. Maurizio settled with Patrizia for $1.47 million a year in alimony. The legislation also required that Patrizia stop using Gucci as her surname.

They had been divorced for a year when Maurizio was murdered. In the 2021 film House of Gucci, Adam Driver and Lady Gaga played the roles of Maurizio and Patrizia, whose relationship served as the film’s inspiration. Ridley Scott’s film was adapted from the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness,

Glamour, and Greed, which explored the circumstances surrounding Maurizio’s death and the possible motivations for Patrizia’s desire to see him dead. Is Patrizia Gucci still alive and if so, where is she currently residing?

How Did Patrizia Gucci Get Caught for Murdering Maurizio Gucci?

At 8:30 a.m. on March 27, 1995, a hired hitman shot and killed Maurizio as he climbed the stairs leading to his workplace at Via Palestro 20 in Milan. Patrizia was arrested and accused of hiring Maurizio’s killer two years after his death. An anonymous tip led to Patrizia’s arrest in January 1997.

Prosecutors claim that Patrizia, who was dubbed the “Black Widow” in the media, murdered her husband out of jealousy and anger for him. Prosecutors claimed that Patrizia was motivated by a desire for power over the Gucci estate and by a desire to stop Maurizio from marrying his longtime girlfriend, Paola Franchi because the nuptials would have resulted in a reduction in Patrizi’s yearly alimony from $1.65 million to $860,000.

Pizzeria owner Benedetto Ceraulo, who was deeply in debt, was paid by Patrizia through her psychic and close friend Giuseppina “Pina” Auriemma to assassinate Maurizio. An undercover police officer posed as a hitman and threatened Patrizia over the phone to pay the remaining debt she owed the group for Maurizio’s murder, and the three were caught after the call was recorded.

Patrizia had spoken with them and others in Milan about hiring a hitman, according to witnesses. Patrizia’s entry in her Cartier diary on the day Maurizio died read “Paradeisos,” which is the Greek word for “paradise.”

According to the Associated Press, Paola testified in court, “I think that Patrizia was upset above all because she couldn’t call herself a Gucci anymore.” Patrizia’s defense team claimed she was framed and blackmailed by Pina into saying she ordered Maurizio’s murder during her trial.

Patrizia later told the court that the murder was “worth every lira,” directly contradicting her earlier testimony. Patrizia’s attorneys claimed, “In Pina’s eyes, Patrizia Reggiani Martinelli was a golden cow, to be milked for money.”

All three defendants, Patrizia, Pina, and Benedetto, were found guilty of first-degree murder following a trial that lasted five months. The judge gave Patrizia a life sentence plus 29 years.

Is Patrizia Gucci Still Alive?

Patrizia Gucci is, in fact, still with us. At the time when House of Gucci was launched, she was 72 years old. Patrizia, who was convicted of murdering Maurizio in 1997 and sentenced to 29 years in Milan’s San Vittore Prison (commonly known as the Opera prison), claimed she was innocent because she had undergone surgery for a brain tumor in 1992,

which had rendered her unable to organize a murder. Her conviction was affirmed in 2000 by a Milan appeals court, but her sentence was lowered to 26 years. Patrizia made an unsuccessful suicide attempt by hanging herself with a bed sheet that same year, but she was discovered and sent to the hospital. All she said was, ‘I wanted to go,'” we are told.

“She’s in a terrible situation mentally,” her mother Silvana Barbieri told CNN. Her attorney at the time, Mario Giraldi, explained that Patrizia’s severe epilepsy was to blame for her suicide attempt. Her attorneys petitioned the prison administration in 2005 to make an exception to the no-pets policy in order to ensure that she may keep her pet ferret, Bambi.

Two evergreen plants were also part of her home decor. Patrizia was granted parole through a work release program in October 2011, but she chose to leave prison instead. I’ve never worked a day in my life, and I have no intention of starting now, she informed her lawyer. After serving 16 years, she was granted parole and freed from prison in 2014.

After 18 years of parole and incarceration, she was finally released in October 2016 on the credit of good behavior. Patrizia told The Guardian in 2016 that she kept herself occupied in prison by napping, tending to her plants, and mourning the loss of her pet ferret, who was crushed to death by a fellow inmate’s chair.

I got a lot of rest. I watered and tended to my plants. Patrizia said, “I took care of Bambi, my pet ferret.” I’d rather not discuss this period. Everything seems like a nightmare now. To avoid calling attention to her incarceration, Patrizia referred to her time behind bars as “my stay at Vittore Residence,” as reported by The Guardian.

To that end, where does Patrizia Gucci currently reside? According to The Guardian, Patrizia was working as a “design consultant” for Milanese costume jewelry company Bozart in April 2014 as part of her parole arrangement. An Italian news outlet once greeted Patrizia as she entered her office for the day with the question, “Patrizia, why did you pay a hitman to assassinate Maurizio Gucci?

Were you too chicken to shoot him down? Her response was, “My eyesight is not very good. I was determined not to be late. The Guardian reports that one of Patrizia’s first free activities was to go shopping on Milan’s Via Monte Napoleone while carrying a red macaw.

According to an interview she gave to The Guardian in 2016, Patrizia spends most of her time reading fashion magazines and directing Bozart’s design staff. “She’s like our Michael Schumacher—she keeps up with trends and test-drives our ideas,” Maurizio Manca, co-owner of Bozart, told The Guardian.

Patrizia, who helped promote the business, contributed to the design of a line of rainbow-hued jewelry and evening bags that were inspired by her pet parrot, Bo. Co-owner Maurizio Manca told The Guardian, “She’s like our Michael Schumacher—she keeps up with trends and test-drives our creations.”

Launch events for the line were hosted in both New York and Milan in September 2014. Manca claimed that “everyone arrived” and the event was a smashing success. However, that day Gucci was doing their runway show just up the street. Newspapers made no mention of Patrizia’s collection the following day.

According to Manca, “someone at Gucci” instructed the media to write about Patrizia’s collection. Patrizia told the Guardian that she like her work there but was not a fan of the newfangled computers that were becoming widely used around the time she was incarcerated. “Computers aren’t my thing.

She proclaimed, “They are quite bad. (Manca mentioned that after Patrizia erased Bozart’s complete photo archive, Bozart had to disconnect her computer from the company’s internal network.) In 2016, Patrizia told The Guardian that she and her then-89-year-old mother lived in a Milanese townhouse.

Patrizia’s two daughters, Alessandra (18) and Allegra (14) are now married and living in Switzerland thanks to the wealth left to them by their late father, Maurizio Gucci. At the time, Patrizia said that her daughters hadn’t visited her much after her release and hadn’t introduced her to their children.

We are having a hard patch right now,” she remarked. They don’t get me, so they’ve stopped giving me money. I’ve never even met my two grandchildren, and I’m penniless. In addition to telling The Guardian that she is leaving Gucci, Patrizia revealed that she still loves her husband despite what has happened to him.

She remarked, “Maurizio is the most important person in my life, and if I could see him again I would tell him that I love him.” To paraphrase, “I imagine he’d say the feeling wasn’t mutual.” The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed is the source material from which the film was adapted.

The book was written by Sara Gay Forden and released in 2001; it details the shocking true story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci on March 27, 1995, in Milan, and the subsequent arrest of his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, also known as the “Black Widow.”

Perhaps Patrizia killed her ex-husband because of his lover, and this novel seeks to answer that question. Is he spending too much? — if there was any doubt that she was the cause of his death.

(And besides, who else could have done it?) “a page-turning narrative of high fashion, high finance, and heartbreaking personal tragedy,” as the book’s description puts it, best describes The House of Gucci.
