Murder Charges Filed Against Juveniles in the Fatal Shooting of a New Jersey College Student

After the recent shooting death of a Manalapan local in his twenties, police have detained and charged two juveniles with murder.

Two males, one 16 and the other 17 were arrested on a Friday afternoon.

Last weekend, they were arrested for the slaying of Philip Urban at a nature preserve and charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, and firearms offenses.

The body of Urban was discovered “slumped over” in the driver’s seat of a white Mercedes C300 at the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve on December 17 at approximately 7 p.m.

According to Angelo Onofri, the prosecutor in Mercer County, the teens plotted to rob Urban of $800 worth of marijuana worth about a quarter of a pound.

Urban had just begun his first season with the basketball team at Post University in Connecticut, where he was a first-year student.

The prosecutor claims that he was shot and killed after being robbed of his marijuana at gunpoint near the gravel entrance to the preserve.

The defendants’ ages necessitate withholding more identification information.

To await a detention hearing, they were being kept at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center.
