The Equalizer Season 3: Official Trailer
Queen Latifah on Season 3 of ‘the Equalizer’ and a Denzel Washington Crossover!
Queen Latifah and CBS renewed “The Equalizer” for a third and fourth season last week.
The drama, in which Latifah portrays vigilante Robyn McCall, is the network’s No. 2 primetime series, behind only “NCIS.” Latifah is “never pleased” with the present quo, she told Variety.
“I’ve had a cinematic career full of new ideas. I bring that approach to television, she said. “How can we improve?” How can we make it better?
As an executive producer of “The Equalizer” under her Flavor Unit Entertainment label, Latifah’s labor wasn’t done when the cameras stopped rolling. Before the May 5 pickup, she was thinking about next season.
In a February episode, Latifah’s friend and “Set It Off” and “Girls Trip” co-star Jada Pinkett Smith pitched her on her role as Jessie Cook, Robyn’s prior master thief. Who is Latifah contemplating for season 3?
“We’re considering many actors for Season 3.” But we can’t tell you, since everyone would take them,” she joked.
Latifah’s competitive drive comes from understanding network TV’s constraints and the type of stuff the show can run. “We have many competitors. We can’t do many things other shows can, so we must keep quality, she said. “I think we did it, but we can improve”
McCall continues to navigate the blurring lines between her family life and vigilante work as she reels from the death of her CIA mentor (Chris Noth) at the hands of her criminal nemesis Mason Quinn and struggles with guilt over her daughter Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) having to keep her secrets. Her ex-husband and Delilah’s father (Stephen Bishop) question her employment and their daughter’s safety as the season nears its finale.
Latifah addresses the show’s real-world influence, her favorite episodes, and what “Equalizer 3” could signify for a future crossover.
