Hanyu Yuzuru‘s third Winter Olympic gold was taken away by an ankle injury. Despite being the overwhelming favorite to win gold at the just-concluded Beijing Olympics, the two-time Olympic champion, who took home gold in Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018, fell short.

The Japanese figure skater may have finished fourth because of an ankle injury he suffered while preparing a jump during a Winter Olympics practice session. It was heartbreaking to witness Yuzuru’s final moments on the Beijing ice. Hanyu Yuzuru’s free program got off to a shaky start because of ankle injury worries, and he had to play catch-up.

Even though Hanyu Yuzuru had to overcome an injury in order to meet the lofty goals he had set for Beijing, he was able to continue forward knowing that he would not hesitate to face any challenges.
