Remi Burgz will host a brand-new weekday program on BBC Radio 1Xtra (Monday – Friday, 1 pm – 4 pm), with the debut episode airing on Monday, January 17, 2022. Yasmin Evans, who has been with the station for 9 years, has opted to depart.
Remi started 1Xtra as the presenter of the Weekend Breakfast Show (Saturdays, 7 – 10 a.m. & Sundays, 7 – 11 a.m.) in January this year and has immediately proven to be a tremendous hit with listeners.
She hosted 1Xtra’s Africa 360, a week of specially selected material showcasing African music and culture, bringing her contagious enthusiasm and good vibes to weekend mornings. Who Is Te Rami Burgz?
“This is huge!” says Remi Burgz. I still pinch myself after a year on 1Xtra because I can’t believe I’m still alive, much alone that I could remain up for Weekend Breakfast! So, after what Yasmin Evans, the brilliant broadcaster, has established, to be awarded such a significant weekday slot is certainly an honor.”
“In a short length of time, Remi has developed a wonderful connection with our listeners and has shown she is an excellent broadcaster,” says Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC Radio 1Xtra. Her contagious enthusiasm, optimistic and upbeat view on life, as well her passion for music and culture, will provide an exciting new dimension to one of 1Xtra’s most essential shows.

“Yasmin is part of 1Xtra’s heritage,” says Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC Radio 1Xtra. She is a valued broadcaster and friend to many, from her memorable Christmas Jingles to the numerous classic interviews she has done over the years.

I’d want to express my gratitude to Yasmin for all she’s done for the station, and I wish her nothing but the best in the future.”
