The residence of a “terrorist on a mission” was the scene of a gunfight in which three officers and a police canine were killed and at least four additional officers were injured.
Authorities said that after a four-and-a-half-hour standoff, Lance Storz, 49, was apprehended in rural Prestonsburg after cops had arrived at his home with a warrant for his arrest following a report of domestic violence.
The Thursday Evening Encounter.
In the Thursday evening encounter, Storz opened fire with a rifle, striking and injuring two policemen, according to Kentucky State Police. Capt. Ralph Frasure and Deputy William Petry, together with one Sheriff’s K9 named Drago and another police department Canine Handler, Jacob Chaffins, were all murdered in the incident in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
As Storz barricaded himself inside the house with his wife and daughter, authorities alleged, the situation swiftly deteriorated. There were other agencies involved, including the state police and policemen from surrounding counties, and a SWAT unit, when the deputies requested help.
The Alleged Shooter Before the Gunshots Started.
“When they arrived, they found… absolute hell. John Hunt, the sheriff of Floyd County, Georgia, said, “They had no chance.” He emphasized that deputies hadn’t even made contact with the alleged shooter before the gunshots started. The shooter “very much followed that strategy almost to accuracy,” Hunt said, adding that it took many hours to determine where the gunman was shooting from.
The sheriff described the suspect as “a pure terrorist… he was just a terrorist on a mission.” On Friday morning, Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley said: “These are human beings. These are people who have families; their lives will never be the same again for them. According to WMDJ, the police were able to apprehend the offender after a brief standoff. His family, including his wife and daughter, were spared damage.

The Area Received Multiple Gunshots.
Hospitals in the area received multiple gunshot wounds from officers from various agencies. As many as six police officers were reportedly shot, according to local media sources. In Kentucky, Storz is still behind bars in the Pike County Detention Center after posting a $10 million surety bond. On the current charging sheet, there are five counts each of attempted murder and first-degree assault on a service animal against the suspect.
In an interview with WSAZ, Short said that he begged Storz to surrender. Storz, on the other hand, is said to have hung up and not answered the phone when Short called. Said Short, “I don’t know why he did that.” Janice DeBoard, the owner of a local business, described Storz as a quiet suspect. In an interview, she said,
“There’s just nothing about him that makes me think he would be like that.”According to Mary Meade, who has spoken with him a few times, “he didn’t seem like that type of person, but you never know.” His shop is right next door to Storz’s house. In an arraignment on Friday, Storz’s attorneys pleaded not guilty on his behalf. The original version of this article claimed that Storz’s bond was $10,000, which is inaccurate.
