Following news of widespread departures from Twitter on Thursday night, the social media platform’s users took to the platform to express their sorrow, with hashtags like #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter trending at the top of the site’s What’s Happening section.
The tweets started pouring in after the time set by Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, had passed. According to a story by the New York Times, Twitter employees were given until Thursday at 5 p.m. ET to determine whether or not they would remain with the firm to help develop “Twitter 2.0.”

The NYT obtained an internal email from Tesla CEO Elon Musk headlined “A Fork in the Road,” and by the deadline on Thursday, hundreds of staff had opted to leave the company, which has been experiencing severe challenges since Elon Musk, 51, assumed charge in late October.
The memo stated that those who remained would be working “long hours at great intensity.” The Washington Post detailed the grave danger the resignations pose to Twitter’s continued operation on Thursday. Prior to the mass resignation on Thursday, Musk had already caused thousands of layoffs.

Others complained about the disproportionate cultural influence of certain minority populations on the platform, citing “Black Twitter” and “Gay Twitter” as examples.

They haven’t yet determined which Twitter employees need to have their accounts suspended. Twitter, under Elon Musk’s leadership, has other problems besides this one, though.
‘#RIPTwitter’ trends as users await site’s potential collapse
Dmitry Borodaenko, an engineering manager located in California, has filed a lawsuit against the firm as a result of Musk’s prohibition on working from home. Poroshenko claims in her lawsuit that Musk’s no remote work policy and the requirement to put in “long hours at high intensity” constitutes disability discrimination.

It also pointed out that Musk’s no remote work mandate goes against the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which mandates that businesses make reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
