The series may need to hear the word “original,” and it appears like a breath of fresh air is finally hitting the franchise in the shape of the brilliantly named Prey. The planned film is advertised as a prequel that takes place many years before the events of the first film, depicting the narrative of the very first Predator species to invade Earth.
Though the project has been kept under wraps according to director Dan Trachtenberg’s demands, information about the picture has slowly been making its way into the headlines, so here’s all we know about Prey.
What is the plot of Prey, and when is it set?
Prey transfers the Predator IP to a totally new time period, three hundred years in fact, well before the events of the original film. More precisely, the film is set in pre-colonial America and follows Naru, a young Comanche hunter, as she searches for a strange menace that is threatening her people.
Naru has no idea that the threat is an extraordinarily intelligent and technologically advanced alien entity known as a Yautja, also known as a Predator to the general public, who hunts the galaxy’s most deadly species for pleasure.
This is also the first time the legendary species has made planet Earth its own hunting area, almost three millennia before one such Predator battled with a ragged squad of troops in Central America, according to producer John Davis.
When and where will prey be released?
The first hunt starts on August 5, 2022, and will be the first full-length movie in the history of the franchise to be released only through streaming.
Even though Disney is now in charge of the Predator franchise, the human skinning and skull removal are probably too much for Disney+. So, Prey will live on Hulu, which is more for adults and is owned by Disney and Fox.

Who is in the Prey Cast?
Amber Midthunder, who is best known for playing Kerry Loudermilk on Legion, plays the main character Naru. Dane DiLiegro, Stefany Mathias, Stormee Kipp, and Dakota Beavers are also in the cast, which seems to be small.
Fans may notice that most of the cast is of Native American descent. This was probably done to make the setting feel as real as possible and to show the Comanche characters in the best way possible.

Producer Jhane Myers, who is a member of the Comanche Nation, is said to be the main reason why the actors were cast in the right roles. Obviously, we won’t know how well the movie represents the real culture until it comes out, but so far, everything seems to be going in the right direction, and the movie will hopefully introduce beloved characters from a community that needs much more representation in movies.
Prey will be the first full-length movie ever to be streamed with subtitles in Comanche.

In May 2022, we got our first look at the unique world of Prey. The short, 40-second teaser shows a young Native American woman running away from a forest. She runs into another Comanche, who tells her to hide. Before that famous three-dot reticle shows up on one of their heads, the two look into the empty woods.

After that, the trailer hints at a tense meeting between the main character Naru and a Yautja that can’t be seen. So, that’s all. The full-length trailer for the movie came out in June 2022. It has a lot more information, like a look at the Predator, and is a lot more fun to watch.
Will the movie Prey come out in theatres?Â
There are no plans to put Prey in theatres right now. Even though the movie was made by 20th Century Studios, it has been officially called a “Hulu Original.” That means the movie will only be available on Hulu. It is very unlikely that it will be shown in theatres.
