You should see a couple of Star Wars movies if you genuinely don’t know. The short version is Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Alec Guinness, a Jedi master who first appears on screen in 1977’s A New Hope.
He assisted young Luke Skywalker in taking his initial steps into the broader world of the Force in this film. Later in the movie, Obi-Wan is killed by Darth Vader, his former apprentice, who is later revealed to be Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s father and a Jedi who has gone to the Dark Side.
In The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan returned as a spirit (a Force ghost in Star Wars lingo) to guide Luke despite his death.
He even offered Rey some assistance in The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker.
In the prequel trilogy, McGregor starred as a youthful Obi-Wan Kenobi, which began with The Phantom Menace in 1999 and introduced us to his master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson).
Qui-Gon discovered Anakin on the desert planet Tatooine but was killed by Darth Maul, leaving Obi-Wan to instruct the youngster.
In Revenge of the Sith, Anakin surrendered to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, then assisted Emperor Palpatine in destroying the Jedi Order as the Galactic Empire was founded.
Obi-Wan escaped and fled to Tatooine with Luke, Anakin’s unborn son, while Luke’s twin sister, Leia, went to live with the Alderaan royal family.
