Location: KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) On Wednesday, a group of troopers gathered with the Lamonaco family to honor Trooper II Philip Lamonaco, who was shot and killed in the line of duty 41 years ago.
Donna Lamonaco, her daughter Sarah, and her son, New Jersey State Lieutenant Michael Lomonaco, were among the many people who paid their respects at the memorial for Tpr. II Lamonaco on Interstate 80 in Knowlton Township.

At 4:35 p.m. on December 21, 1981, while patrolling westbound on Interstate 80 in Knowlton Township, Trooper II Lamonaco pulled over a car at milepost 5.
Trooper II Lamonaco was shot nine times in the gun duel that broke out during the halt. His condition was so grave that he was proclaimed dead shortly after arriving at Mount Pocono Hospital.
Lamonaco, a New Jersey State Police Trooper II, retired after 11 years and 1 month of service.
The late Tpr. II Phil Lamonaco’s friends and family gathered to remember and celebrate his life. Among those in attendance were his wife, Donna; his son, Lt.
Lamonaco; and a number of other loved ones.
