New Jersey Provides Residents Who Qualify with Payments of $1,500.

The State of New Jersey has announced a $35 million programme that provides payments of $1,500 to eligible residents who have lost income due to COVID-19.

The COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program Phase II (CVERAP Phase II) is designed to assist low- and moderate-income households with rent arrears and future rent payments.

To qualify for the program(source), applicants must demonstrate a significant decrease in income or loss of employment due to COVID-19, reside in New Jersey, and have a household income below a certain threshold. Applicants must also provide proof of residency and income and be current on their rent as of March 2020, among other eligibility requirements.

The payments may be applied to rent arrears or future rent, but not to late fees, security deposits, or other fees. Direct payments will be made to the landlord or utility company for rent or utility bills, making it easier for tenants to avoid eviction by staying current on rent payments.

Phase II of the CVERAP is part of the state’s efforts to aid residents who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

It is anticipated that the programme will assist eligible households to remain in their homes and avoid eviction, allowing families to maintain housing stability during these difficult times.

The state has also launched a number of additional programmes aimed at assisting residents. For instance, the Small Landlord Emergency Grant (SLEG) programme offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible small landlords to cover unpaid rent from COVID-19-affected tenants.

In addition, the state’s COVID-19 Customer Assistance Program offers utility bill relief to customers affected by the pandemic who are struggling to pay their utility bills.

In conclusion, the CVERAP Phase II programme provides residents of New Jersey who have been affected by the pandemic with much-needed financial assistance.

With rental assistance payments, eligible households can avoid eviction and stay current on their rent, providing a much-needed safety net in these uncertain times.
