Cory Monteith will always be a special part of Lea Michele’s life. After her co-star and best friend died nine years ago, the Glee star paid tribute to him in a series of tweets on July 13.

Assumingly from their hit Fox show, a 35-year-old actor shared a photo. Both Lea and Cory were beaming from ear to ear as they walked side by side for a scene on the set. The heart emoji was included by Lea as an extra special touch.

Cory died of an accidental drug overdose on July 13, 2013. With Lea, his fiancée of four years at the time of his death, he was 31 when he died away and had been on four seasons of Glee. Cory’s character on Glee had the number five on his jersey, so Lea decided to memorialize him by getting a tattoo of the same number.

During her honest talks, she’s also sparked discussions about mourning. Lea made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013 and opened up about her journey to recovery. “There is an empowerment that comes with grief—at some time you find it,” she said to Ellen DeGeneres.
There will be a point where you may either choose to sink or rise from this, and I believe that is when you will find it. That’s what I’m just trying to do for him, because I know that’s what he would have wanted,” Lea continued. The months following Cory’s death are still fresh in Lea’s mind, even though she is now married to Zandy Reich.
