SOUTH HILL, Wash. – On Monday, officers from Pierce County, Washington, followed a GPS tracker that had been embedded into the stolen merchandise, which led them to the culprit in a shoplifting case.
At the South Hill neighborhood of Meridian Avenue East and 168th Street East, deputies responded to a call at a beauty shop. According to the reports of the staff members, a man strolled in, stole fragrances valued at a total of $2,862, and then fled.

Workers also reported that one of the bottles contained a GPS tracker on its label.
Following the GPS signal, law enforcement was able to determine that the suspect was located in the parking lot of a neighboring department store. After arriving at the location, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle and then went inside the business to locate and apprehend him there.

The individual was said to be carrying the stolen property in a rucksack, according to the authorities. According to the reports, the suspect told the deputies that he intended to sell the stolen things for “blues,” which is slang for fentanyl pills.
As deputies searched the suspect’s vehicle, they discovered additional things that had been stolen from a store in the area.
The defendant was arrested for first-degree trafficking of stolen property and second-degree theft after the deputies recovered all of the stolen property and returned it to the owner. The amount of his bail was established at $10,000.
This same individual, according to the sheriff’s office, entered a guilty plea to the charge of second-degree burglary in connection to a theft that occurred in an auto parts store in January.
