A doctor has been accused of groping a patient and coercing a female patient to have sex with him.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 55-year-old Dr. Gurvindra Johal with four counts of criminal sexual contact and one count of sexual assault. Colonia’s urgent care doctor was taken into custody on February 25.
Apparently, three victims have come forward, according to the authorities.
Two female patients at Johal’s Amboy Urgent Care on Cornell Street in Perth Amboy have come forward to report that he inappropriately touched them. The building previously housed a private practise, but now only houses an urgent care centre.
The third victim “had sexual intercourse with him against her will,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. On Sunday, charges were brought up against Johal. They were both accusing him of criminal sexual contact. The new charges were submitted by prosecutors on Wednesday.
Johal is listed as the medical director of the Medicenter of Edison on its website. When a reporter called the facility, a receptionist promptly hung up.
The investigation is “active and ongoing,” according to the prosecutor’s office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Lauren Leyva of the MCPO at 732-745-4499 or Detective Gina Betancourt of the Perth Amboy Police Department at 732-324-3819.
