Ocasio is the paternal surname, while Ruiz is the maternal surname.

Rauw Alejandro is a Puerto Rican singer and rapper who was born on January 10, 1993. He is known as the “King of Modern Reggaeton” and is a member of the “new generation” of Puerto Rican urban artists. In November 2020, he published his first studio album, Afrodisaco. The lead track “Todo de Ti” was included on his second studio album, Vice Versa, which was released in June 2021. From four nominations, he has one Latin Grammy Award.

Ral Alejandro Ocasio Ruiz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on January 10, 1993, and reared in the Canóvanas and Carolina areas.

Alejandro and his father spent several years on the mainland of the United States, namely in Miami and New York City, where he was influenced by R&B and dancehall. Alejandro and fellow Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA were childhood buddies who attended the same elementary school and shared lessons. Alejandro has always loved to dance and participated in school talent competitions as a youngster.

He went to the University of Puerto Rico after finishing high school. He also played soccer from the age of six until he was twenty, but resigned after an injury at age 20 because he “could not perform as he planned.” He relocated to Orlando, Florida, with the hopes of being scouted for a position in the Premier Development League (PDL), but was ultimately unsuccessful.

He was left in a mild melancholy after leaving soccer, so to lift his spirits, he decided to pursue a musical career, and in 2014, he started publishing songs on SoundCloud.

His first mixtape, Punto de Equilibrio, was released in November of 2016. Duars Entertainment signed him to a record contract in January 2017.  In 2018, Sony Music Latin selected him to be a member of “Los Próximos,” a musical initiative in which the company aimed to recruit fresh musical talent. He was included in various collaborations that year, including Kevin Roldán and Khea’s “Pa’ Tu Casa,” and Ozuna, Lunay, and Lyanno’s “Luz Apaga.”

He released his debut solo song, “Toda,” with Alex Rose in December 2017. In November 2018, it reached number 29 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs list. Cazzu, Lenny Tavárez, and Lyanno collaborated on a remix of “Toda” in May of 2018. As of November 2020, the music video for the song has received over 1 billion views on YouTube. His track “Que le dé” featuring Nicky Jam was released in January 2019.

His song “Fantasias” with Farruko hit number 12 on the US Latin chart in December 2019, which is also the highest rank his songs have ever achieved on the list, together with “Tattoo.” Both songs spent 20 weeks on the charts, the longest in Alejandro’s career, and received the Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Fusion/Performance in 2021.

On November 13, 2020, Alejandro released his first album, Afrodisaco. It was preceded by the release of “Enchule,” the “Eleg” remix, and “Reloj,” a collaboration with Anuel AA, as well as their respective music videos.

He released “Todo de ti” on May 20, 2021, which reached number two on Spotify’s Top Songs Global. Vice Versa was released via Sony Music Latin on June 25, 2021. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Afrodisaco received a nomination for Best Msica Urbana Album.
