An order of protection against Ricky Martin was filed in accordance with Puerto Rico’s domestic violence statute, despite the singer’s denial.
There are “totally false and contrived” charges against Ricky Martin which resulted in a protection order, according to a statement from the 50-year-old singer’s rep to The Hollywood Reporter on July 2. Ricky Martin will be totally vindicated when the exact facts of this case are revealed, we are convinced.
A Local Judge Issued the Protective Order.
On Friday, July 1, a local judge issued the protective order, according to an Associated Press article from Saturday. An order for Martin’s arrest was granted by a judge before he could be served at his home in Dorado, Puerto Rico, the AP reports.
On Saturday, police spokesman Axel Valencia told the site that they haven’t been able to locate him, stressing that Martin is unable to contact the complainant because of the order. He further added that the person who submitted the order did not contact the police, but instead proceeded through the judicial process.

According to the territory’s Law 54, also known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act, a complaint was filed against the “Falta Amor” performer. The claimed victim’s name has not been revealed under the requirements of the statute, which was created in 1989 to deal with domestic abuse cases.
Puerto Rican publication El Vocero claimed that the two dated for seven months before they broke up earlier this year, something the former Menudo member did not agree with, according to the local media.
The publication reported the order’s phrasing as saying, “The petitioner fears for his safety.” Prior to his marriage to longtime lover Jwan Yosef in 2017, Martin officially acknowledged his homosexuality.
