3,010 Covid Cases, 21 Deaths in New Jersey; Positive Test Count Up More Than 50% From Last Month.

On Thursday, New Jersey health officials recorded 3,010 COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths as the average daily positive tests and fatalities soar heading into the holiday weekend.

The state’s seven-day confirmed positive test average is 2,032, up 6% from last week and 55% from last month.

New Jersey has not witnessed the December 2021 case rise. Dec. 22, 2021’s seven-day average exceeded 6,900 positive tests.

The transmission was 1.07 statewide on Thursday. A transmission rate of 1 implies a stable outbreak, while anything above 1 suggests a growing disease.

70 of the state’s 71 hospitals reported 1,476 coronavirus illnesses Wednesday night. 175 are in intensive care and 56 are on ventilators.

The CDC deems 10 counties “high” for COVID-19: Bergen, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Union, and Warren. 11 counties have “medium” transmission.
