12,000 Fentanyl Pills Seized in Candy Wrappers at Lax, Sparking Halloween Warning to Parents

(KABC) Los Angeles After a significant fentanyl seizure at LAX, authorities is cautioning parents once more about the danger of drugs being mixed in with candy this Halloween. Early on Wednesday morning, someone attempted to get through security at the Los Angeles International Airport with candy bags that contained 12,000 fentanyl pills.

The containers of Skittles, Whoppers, and SweeTarts candy held the narcotic pills. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agents working with a task force at the airport were responsible for seizing the drugs.

Despite being able to escape, the suspect has been named. The bust prompted fresh requests for parents to exercise caution this Halloween over the goodies their kids bring home. This year, there have been numerous instances of fentanyl being produced in candy wrappers or in rainbow-colored chemicals.

The Sheriff’s Department advised parents to check their children’s candy as Halloween approached and to prevent them from eating anything until it has been examined. Do not handle anything you think may be illegal drugs that you find in candy boxes; instead, report it right away to your neighborhood police department.
