For days, Donald Trump and his friends blasted the Justice Department for conducting a search warrant at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago home, inciting a frenzy among his fans and capitalising on the department’s customary opacity by giving their own versions of events. As they protested the police, others began using the slogan “Release the warrant” as a rallying cry.
On Thursday, in response to the downpour, the Justice Department simply said “OK.” Then, at around midnight on Wednesday, Trump, who has had a copy of the search warrant since Monday, said that he too approved the release, virtually guaranteeing that it will be made public as soon as this coming Friday.
In a late-night post on his social media site, Truth Social, Trump stated, “I will not resist the release of records connected to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and needless raid and break-in of my house in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago.”
