Glotzer Said that They Were Among the Very Best She’d Ever Seen, and The Phrase “over the Roof” Was Used to Characterise Their Quality. The Studio Decided to Avoid Promoting the Fact that The Picture Was Written by Stephen King, Who Is More Renowned for His Pulp Fiction Novels Like the Shining and Cujo, in The Hopes of Attracting a “more Distinguished Audience.”
In Limited Distribution in North America on September 23, 1994, the Shawshank Redemption Had It’s World Premieres the Previous Month at The Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield and The Toronto International Film Festival. the Film’s Opening Weekend Gross Was $727,000 from 33 Theatres. This equates to An Average of $22,040 per Cinema.
Darabont and Glotzer, Keeping with Hollywood Custom, Travelled to The Cinerama Dome on Opening Night to See an Audience’s Reaction to The Picture in Person; However, They Were the Only Ones Present. According to Glotzer, the Two of Them Sold Two Tickets Outside the Cinema on The Promise that Their Money Would Be Refunded by Castle Rock if The buyers were unhappy with the movie. Some critics lauded the film, but according to Glotzer, the film’s mediocre reception in the Los Angeles Times drove away audiences.
