Latest on the East Meadow Bank Robbery: 1 Person Has Been Arrested

Nassau County Police identified Darren Lindo, 38, of 499 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville, N.Y., as the robber who entered the Bank of America on Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday morning and handed a note demanding money to a 55-year-old teller.

The bank teller bolted from the scene. According to reports, Lindo fled the scene without any of his belongings.

At 10:03 a.m. on a charge of 3rd-degree Attempted Bank Robbery, police say they tracked down and apprehended Lindo.

It was not mentioned in the news accounts, but court documents show that after Lindo’s arrest, he was sent to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries.

On Thursday, Lindo was arraigned while lying in a hospital bed. There was no information about the severity of his wounds or his current health.

For his crimes of robbery and attempted robbery, Lindo has already served two prison terms. Before his arrest on Wednesday, he was already the subject of two pending criminal proceedings.

Authorities were tight-lipped about the bank robbery. Because Lindo’s case is unavailable, the “Attempted Robbery” accusation against him cannot be confirmed. The fact that Lindo was wounded suggests he fought arrest or was armed, something not mentioned in official police comments.

According to the police report, there were only four bank personnel and “zero customers” present during the robbery, and “no one was wounded.”

But, after Lindo’s arrest, he was taken ill and hospitalized. Official reports never revealed that he had been hurt.

Both a Toyota Sienna and an NCPD police car had their front ends damaged, and the police have offered no explanation for this.

NCPD officers towed both cars from the scene. When asked how they thought Lindo escaped in the Toyota Sienna, police have not provided an explanation.

In October of last year, a TD Bank was targeted in another robbery attempt, according to the police. Apparently, an unknown individual presented a note to the bank cashier and demanded money.

So far, there have been no suspects apprehended in the investigation. The police have not held Lindo responsible for what happened.
