While McDaniel was being transported to Walmart’s theft section office, officers from the Moonachie Police Department arrived. McDaniel’s behavior as he watched the toddler fall across the floor perplexed the cops and the crowd of onlookers.

Lieutenant Jeff Napolitano of the Moonachie Police Department said that McDaniel “put the infant down in front of her and [kicked the baby in the] back.” The store’s asset protection officer scooped up the girl and handed her off to McDaniel’s aunt, who had joined him on his shopping trip.

After being booted, the toddler was “inconsolable,” as the Lieutenant put it. McDaniel was yelling, “shut the baby up!” while thrashing her arms and punching the air and the things around her.

McDaniel tried to take the infant from her aunt as she yelled at the child to quiet down. Eventually, two more police officers arrived and arrested McDaniel.

Police were handed a security video of the theft at the time it occurred, but it has not yet been made public.

The girl infant was fortunate to be found healthy after an ambulance check. After everything that happened, she’s still living with her aunt.
