True Detective is back on the case with a new chapter in the anthology crime drama. While True Detective season 4 is officially named True Detective: Night Country, almost everything about the program is new, from the characters to the showrunner. One thing is certain: at the heart of it all is a frightening enigma for the characters (and viewers) to ponder.
True Detective’s first season, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, premiered in 2014 and quickly became a smash sensation. True Detective season 2 premiered in 2015 and starred Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly.
True Detective Season 3 premiered in 2019 when the show was taken over by new writers and stars Maherhala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Ray Fisher, and Mamie Gummer. Who is engaged in this new season, and what will it be about? Everything you need to know about True Detective season 4 is right here.
True Detective Season 4: When Will It Be Released?
True Detective season 4 was officially ordered to series by HBO on June 28, however, the premiere date is still unknown. True Detective season 4 has no release date or even a time frame because development is currently ongoing. If we had to guess, we’d say sometime in 2023 is a good bet.
True Detective Season 4: Cast Members
True Detective has always had huge celebrities starring in each season, and Jodie Foster will be one of the leads in True Detective season 4. Foster is a Hollywood classic, having appeared in films such as Taxi Driver, The Accused, The Silence of the Lambs, Contact, Inside Man, and, most recently, The Mauritanian since she was a child.
Foster began her career in television, but True Detective will be her first major part since the 1970s. Foster portrays Liz Danvers, one of the major detectives on the case, in True Detective season 4.
Evangeline Navarro, the other detective, will be played by Kali Reis. Reis is a professional boxer and campaigner for Indigenous rights who made her acting debut in the 2021 indie film Catch the Fair One.
Her performance in the film earned her a special Jury Mention at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival as well as a nomination for Best Female Lead at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. It also definitely piqued the interest of the True Detective team.
True Detective Season 4: What Will Be the PlotÂ
The following is the official synopsis for HBO’s True Detective: Night Country:
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men who run the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry within themselves, and dig into the haunting truths that lie buried beneath the eternal ice.”
True Detective Season 4: Is There a Trailer?
We won’t have a trailer for the upcoming season of True Detective for a time, but we’ll post it here as soon as it becomes available.
True Detective Season 4: Other Crew
Foster and Reis will be the major characters on screen, but there is an incredible array of talent behind the camera as well.
The new season’s showrunner/writer/executive producer and the director is Issa López. In her home Mexico, López has established a reputation as a writer/director with films such as Tigers Are Not Afraid and Casi Divas.
Barry Jenkins serves as an executive producer alongside López behind the scenes. Jodie Foster and the original True Detective team of Nic Pizzolatto, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and Cary Joji Fukunaga are also executive producers.
