Today, KC and the Sunshine Band are as popular as they were when they first appeared on the music scene fifty years ago. And when you’re hosting the party of the year, who else would you want to keep the party going?
KC and the Sunshine Band will headline the Saturday night concert at the 40th annual New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning on July 29 at Solberg Airport in Readington Township. The concert is sponsored by the New Jersey Lottery.
Following that evening’s mass hot air balloon ascent and in conjunction with the Festival’s nighttime hot air balloon glow, they will perform. Followers of the Festival on social media (#njballoonfest) will receive a special pre-sale code for advance ticket purchases beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10.
The first sixty reserved KC and the Sunshine Band concert ticket orders will receive a free Scratch-Off ticket from the New Jersey Lottery (limit one Scratch-Off per order).
“We are ecstatic to have one of the greatest party bands of all time performing at the biggest party of the summer,” said Howard Freeman, executive producer of the Festival. People enjoy attending concerts where they can sing and dance along with every song.
Harry Wayne Casey, or KC for short, created a distinctive blend of R&B, funk, and Latin percussion groove.
With over 100 million records sold, nine Grammy Award nominations, three Grammy Awards, and an American Music Award, KC and the Sunshine band was one of the most progressive bands of the 1970s and is credited with altering the sound of modern pop music with hits such as “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It),” “Shake Your Booty,” and “Keep It Coming, Love.”
This year marks 50 years of KC and the Sunshine Band entertaining us.
KC’s music continues to be popular, appearing in national advertisements for companies such as General Motors, Burger King, Papa John’s Pizza, and Old Navy; as well as in over 200 commercials, television shows, and films, and at major sporting events.
The New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning is the largest hot air balloon and music festival in North America during the summer months. The three-day Festival, held on July 28-29-30, features the awe-inspiring spectacle of up to 100 balloons taking flight twice daily, headlining concerts, a nighttime hot air balloon glow, the New Jersey Lottery Land members-only VIP club lounge and entertainment complex, and family entertainment in a safe, outdoor setting spanning 744 acres at Solberg Airport.
Throughout the Festival’s illustrious history, the ability to draw the biggest names in music has played a significant role. The Sunshine Band has previously performed in 2001 and 2016.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 13 at 10:00 a.m. For more information, including ticket prices and VIP packages, please visit www.balloonfestival.com.
