It Has Been Announced That Maryland’s Second Wealthiest Resident Has Passed Away

Locals in Maryland will tell you that Chevy Chase is a sleepy little town. The population of Chevy Chase is close to 10 thousand.

Compared to the state average of $86,738, the median income in this city is a whopping $181,929. Until he passed away, Ted Lerner was the richest person in all of Chevy Chase.

With a fortune of $6.4 billion, Lerner was one of the wealthiest people in the world. With that sum, he became the state of Maryland’s second-wealthiest individual and the nation’s 143rd-wealthiest individual overall.

Can Someone Shed Some Light on the Identity of Ted Lerner?

For a time, the Washington Nationals baseball team was managed by Ted Lerner, an American real estate developer, and businessman.

Ted Lerner was born on October 15, 1925, in the District of Columbia, and he passed away in February of 2023 in the state of Maryland. It was an Orthodox Jewish family that he grew up in. By the year 1944, Ted Lerner completed his high school education at Roosevelt.

In the years following his high school diploma, he served in the armed forces during World War II. During his time in the armed forces, he attended and graduated from George Washington University’s Law School in 1949.

While in college, he worked as a real estate agent, which honed his knowledge of the industry and led him to realize that real estate was more interesting to him than law.

Ted Lerner, with the help of a $250 loan from his wife, established Lerner Enterprises in 1952; the company quickly grew to become the largest private real estate development firm in the United States, and Lerner himself amassed the largest private landholdings in the nation’s capital, including residential, retail, commercial, and hotel properties.

He Spent 30 Years Suing His Sibling.

In 1983, Ted fired his brother Larry from the company, setting off a court war that would run for the next three decades.

The Washingtonian claims that “At least 16 times, Larry has filed lawsuits against Ted or his businesses, alleging various forms of wrongdoing including fraud, civil conspiracy, and breach of contract. He also implied that one of the companies was hiding something from the public.”

He Acquired the Washington Nationals in 2006

In 2006, Lerner paid $450 million to purchase the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball.

Almost Every Jewish Organization Can Count on the Family’s Support

The Lerners were ardent backers of Jewish communities across the United States and in Israel. Mark Lerner, Ted’s eldest son, is a board member of the JCC of Greater Washington, an organization that receives funding from the family.

Ted Lerner is a family man who has settled down in Chevy Chase, Maryland with his wife and three kids.
