The Minimum Wage in New Jersey and Delaware Will Increase That Year, to $20.23 and $8.25 Respectively.

New Jersey and Delaware are among 20 states preparing for New Year’s Day minimum wage hikes.

On Jan. 1, 2022, New Jersey’s minimum wage will rise to $14.13 from $13. In 2019, Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation to raise the rate by at least $1 each year to $15 by 2024.

According to the Department of Labor, a higher Consumer Price Index raised the 2023 rate. New Jersey tipped workers will receive $5.26 per hour and an $8.87 tip credit. If the minimum wage + tips don’t meet the state minimum wage, the employer must pay the difference.

Delaware’s minimum wage will rise to $11.75 in 2023 from $10.50. This helps the state reach $15 per hour by 2025. “Delawareans who go to work full time shouldn’t be living in poverty,” said Gov. John Carney, who authorized the 12% rise in July 2021.

In 2024, the state minimum wage will rise to $13.25 per hour, then $15 in 2025. The tipped minimum salary will remain at $2.23 per hour. Some government and domestic service workers will not be affected in January.

Pennsylvania raised the income threshold for tipped workers statewide in August to preserve wages. Pennsylvania tipped workers must receive $135 in tips per month before their hourly pay can be decreased from $7.25 to $2.53.

Nebraska, Michigan, Washington, and California will boost minimum wages in 2023. According to the Economic Policy Institute, these hourly wage hikes will affect mostly 25-year-olds.

Dozens of national corporations plan to raise their minimum wage in the coming years. Bank of America wants to pay $25 per hour by 2025, and Target wants to pay $24 this year.
