Prosecutor McDonald said that in August, the property manager of a Montgomery Township apartment complex reported a possible case of theft by deceit to the Special Investigations Unit of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
After conducting an investigation, investigators learned that Gonzalez had been renting out apartments in the complex on her own and pocketing the rent and security deposits for almost two years.
Authorities said that Gonzalez also faked the owner of the apartment complex’s name on lease agreements without the owner’s knowledge or approval.
On Tuesday, she voluntarily turned herself in to the police, and she was promptly arrested.
Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the Somerset County Jail on charges of 2nd-degree theft (over $75,000) by deception and 4th-degree forgery. His detention hearing has not yet been scheduled.
