Since New Jersey was named the “greatest pizza state in America” by Food & Wine in 2021, one city, in particular, has reason to celebrate.
Coniglio’s Old Fashioned, a new pizzeria in Morristown, won the title of Best Pizza in New Jersey at this year’s Pizza Bowl (yes, it’s a real event).
Every year, Jersey Pizza Joints hosts a statewide competition to determine who makes the greatest pizza in the state.

The restaurant was created a few months ago by Nino Coniglio and his wife. Coniglio is a famous pizza maker who has opened six successful pizzerias in New York City.
Native of New Jersey Since he was 14 years old, Coniglio has been in the pizza business. Two of his most successful restaurants, Brooklyn Pizza Crew and Williamsburg Pizza, are located just on the other side of the Hudson River.
Pizzas like the Brooklyn (mozzarella, tomato sauce, parmesan Reggiano, basil), the Meatball Ricotta (housemade meatballs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta), and his famed square-shaped Upside Down Sicilian can be found at Coniglio’s Old Fashioned, his first pizzeria in his home state (mozzarella, tomato sauce, pecorino Romano).

He gets the sourdough-like crust on his pizzas from using local Jersey mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, and Caputo 00 flour with fermented yeast. Non-pizza items on the menu include heroes, eggplant, chicken parm, and his family’s recipe for spaghetti and meatballs.
On February 4, 2018, the third-annual Pizza Bowl was held. According to Patch, almost 2,000 meatballs and 250 pies were served as samples.
The 40 judges, who included Goodfellas actor Joseph D’Onofrio, unanimously agreed that Coniglio’s pizzas were the best.
The truth is that anywhere in New Jersey, you can find excellent pizza. New Jersey is home to a wide variety of pizza styles, from traditional Neapolitan to cutting-edge new wave, and the state’s newly established Pizza Trail is the perfect opportunity to sample them all.

Pizzeria I Masanielli, located in a little city not far from Naples, is often considered to be the best pizza restaurant in the world.
