So Far, Mayor Bowser Has Spent $8 Million on Programmes That Aid Immigrants.

D.C. has been helping out migrants who were bused in from Texas since late April. Governor Abbott reported that people were entering Texas from Mexico through El Paso and Del Rio.

Since Governor Abbott was getting no help from the Biden administration, he bused his staff to Washington, D.C. On April 13th, 2022, the first bus pulled into the terminal.

People were also crossing into Arizona from other border states. Following Governor Abbott’s lead, former Governor Doug Ducey began transporting migrants via bus to the nation’s capital on May 11.

Washington, D.C., has spent nearly $8 million aiding migrants over the past four months. To help them get situated, they will need money for things like temporary accommodation, legal and medical assistance, and transportation to meet with non-governmental organizations.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser established the Office of Migrant Services on September 8 of last year to aid newly arrived migrants. The governor did not halt the process of transporting migrants to the city via bus.

After Vice President Kamala Harris denied a border emergency, Governor Gavin Newsom began busing residents to Harris’ Naval Observatory residence.

Funds assisting migrants have surged, as shown in other sanctuary cities like Chicago and New York City where they were bused. Both mayors have exhausted their budgets and are demanding extra money from their respective cities. The same thing may happen in the nation’s capital.

If Mayor Bowser wants to help migrants without going bankrupt, she needs a solid plan.
