A 34-year-old Newark resident was arrested and will serve time in prison for her part in a theft of roughly $94,000 worth of handbags from a high-end retailer in the Hamptons.
On Tuesday, January 17, Suffolk County Court sentenced Baseemah Davis to two to six years in prison. It came after her guilty plea in March 2022 for criminal possession of stolen property related to a theft from the Balenciaga store in East Hampton.

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an unnamed lady wearing a pink ski mask and glasses was seen entering the business, according to CCTV footage reviewed by prosecutors. After looking around for a while, she finally asked a worker to see whether they stocked her size shoe.
Prosecutors claim that as the employee went to retrieve the footwear, Davis and three others swooped in and made off with numerous high-end purses.
Five of them jumped into a waiting Dodge Durango and drove off.
East Hampton Village police and then a state trooper followed their car as it went west on the Sunrise Highway and then north on Route 111 in Manorville.
The Durango occasionally reached speeds of over one hundred miles per hour and swerved dangerously into oncoming traffic. At some point, troopers gave up the chase due to safety concerns.
Shortly thereafter, a trooper saw the vehicle exiting the Long Island Expressway near Wading River Road in Manorville when three of the suspects allegedly escaped into the woods. There were still two occupants in the automobile.
Four people, including Davis (then 25), Wazir Rodgers (then 26), Jamal Johns (then 28), and Ali Harris (then 28), all of Newark, were subsequently apprehended.
