Subway police sought to assist an inebriated man over the weekend and arrested him after discovering a handmade gun in his pants, according to sources on Monday.
Around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to reports of an intoxicated man at the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station in Mott Haven and found the 37-year-old Melvin Montoya.
Then they saw a long, heavy metal item running down his leg.
Officers conducted a pat down on Montoya, and he allegedly reached for what was eventually identified as a gas-operated one-shot gun by the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and police sources.
The Post got photographs of the strange homemade pistol, which depict a long, wrench-like metal contraption with screws and what looks to be a lever.
