Picnic Performances, a Series of Free Yearly Midtown Arts Activities, Will Take Place in Bryant Park

Picnic Performances is an annual series of free concerts, dance performances, and theatrical events that takes place in Bryant Park and is put on by the Bryant Park Corporation. From June 1st through September 14th, there will be 25 activities, all of which will be free to the public.

This welcoming Midtown show, formally known as Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America, regularly features collaborations with prominent New York City arts institutions that include a wide range of artistic disciplines.

According to Dan Fishman, the vice president of public events at Bryant Park Corporation, “Bryant Park Picnic Performances is an uncommonly collaborative project that is meant to showcase the best of the arts in New York City.”

“I can think of no better way to honor New York than to work together with the city’s many cultural institutions, both large and small,” she said.

Opening its season on June 1 is a fully staged and costumed performance of Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Jazzmobile, Joe’s Pub, the Classical Theatre of Harlem, and Carnegie Hall are among the other presenters this season.

On August 26th, Brooklyn’s experimental music lab Roulette will host a concert fronted by the mesmerizing drone-rock combination 75 Dollar Bill; on September 9th, East Village global music nightclub Drom will host the U.S. debut of Turkish singer Gaye Su Akyol. On September 14th, Harlem Stage will close out its 40th anniversary season.
