Nypd Rookie Who Fired Deadly Shot While on Duty Commits Suicide, According to Stories in Si

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – As of today, According to officials, a young NYPD cop who had been involved in a tragic on-duty shooting the previous year took his own life early Thursday morning on Staten Island.

According to the New York Post, police found the body of a man who was 22 years old and had shot himself in the head around 1:50 a.m. inside a home in Woodrow. The man’s identity was not immediately released.

He was apparently discovered carrying a firearm in close proximity to him.

After being taken to a nearby hospital, the cop was confirmed dead once he arrived there.

According to sources quoted by the article, the 22-year-old man was discovered by his father, a retired sergeant who had served for the NYPD. He had just joined the NYPD in October 2021 and was assigned to work midnight hours at the 60th Precinct in Coney Island.

In November 2022, the young officer was one of four police officers who opened fire on Jermaine Hickson, a suspect in a case involving domestic abuse, outside of a deli in Coney Island.

According to witnesses who talked to the Daily News and security film that was found at the scene, Hickson, 42, a resident of Harlem, started shooting as soon as the cops arrived and fired at least five shots at them. This information was obtained from the scene.

This makes the officer the third police officer to take his own life in the last three months.

According to the authorities, an NYPD officer was shot in February and survived after shooting himself in what appears to have been an attempt to commit suicide in the 47th Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx.

According to reports from the Daily News, in January, an off-duty police officer in Rosedale, Queens, tragically shot himself in a car as he was parked near a park.
