A homeless veteran from New Jersey accuses New York Representative George Santos of taking funds from his sick service dog’s GoFundMe campaign.
In 2016, according to Navy veteran Rich Osthoff, Santos pledged to help him raise $3,000 for his dog’s life-saving operation. At the time, he was living in a tent beside Route 9 in Howell.
According to Osthoff, Santos pocketed the money for himself. The dog died later on.
“I became ill. To watch someone who could commit such a heinous act ascend to such a high position is shocking. That should not be the case. This should not occur, Osthoff stated to CNN.
Santos asserts that Osthoff’s story is false and that he has never met him.
Santos has been condemned for the lies he acknowledged to telling regarding his degree, employment history, and other parts of his life. Critics have demanded his resignation.
The freshly elected congressman has stated that he will not resign.
The wire services of the Associated Press contributed to this report.
