NEW YORK (PIX11) — Tuesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that households registered in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive additional food payments in December.
Hochul stated that all New Yorkers participating in the program will receive the maximum permitted amount of food subsidies in December. Approximately $234 million in federal cash will be used to supplement benefits.
“These additional benefits have helped poor New Yorkers feed themselves and their families throughout the epidemic and now in the face of rising food prices owing to global inflation,” Hochul explained.
The $234 million allocated to SNAP will give help to needy New Yorkers over the holiday season and the frigid winter months when household finances are particularly stretched.
Each enrolled household will receive at least $95, according to officials.
Officials stated that SNAP households outside of New York City should receive their benefits by December 22. SNAP households in New York City should get their funds by December 28.
