Mystikal dated various women, including American singers Nivea (2000–2001), Monica, and Karrine Steffans (2001). Million Tyler and Michelle Tyler are his two children.

Mystikal found her sister Michelle dead inside her home in 1994 after she had been stabbed and strangled. Her boyfriend Damion Neville, who is also the grandson of one of the well-known Neville Brothers, was detained and accused of the crime. After a trial, however, Neville was declared not guilty.

In 2003, Mystikal was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting his hairstylist. He claimed she had stolen $80,000 in checks and coerced her into having oral sex with him and his two bodyguards.

While Mystikal was still incarcerated on the state charges of sexual assault and extortion, he was charged federally in 2005 with two misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns for the years 1998 and 1999.
