Knox County Grand Jury Indicts New Jersey Firm For Illegally Buying Scrap Metal From Stolen Catalytic Converters!

The Knox County Grand Jury indicted a corporation based in New Jersey, which is about 700 miles from Knoxville. The Alpha Shredding Group is being investigated for allegedly trafficking in stolen catalytic converters that were later sold as scrap metal.

Prosecutors claim the business gained over $200,000 and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van from the unlawful transactions. They are now attempting to take all of their property.

T. Scott Jones, an attorney, stated, “Obviously, you can’t put a corporation in jail.”

The website for Alpha Shredding Group states that the company “works on a system based on volume” when it comes to recycling scrap metals and catalytic converters. The buyers, according to the report, do not get paid a commission on the number of items purchased, but they do get paid a commission on the number of converters.

They report more than 150,000 monthly converts processed, with the number rising constantly.

Jones explained that the catalytic converters came from automobiles whose parts had been stolen in the East Tennessee area.
