Having recently broken up with Blake Moynes, Katie Thurston is starting to feel vulnerable. The former Bachelorette, now 30 years old, sent an Instagram message over the weekend in which she discussed the breakup she and her ex-fiancé had announced in a joint statement a few days earlier.
Katie started off by saying, “Obviously a public relationship ending is a really s**ty thing to have to negotiate,” before thanking the audience for their kindness and support. Many people, in my opinion, give too much significance to trivial matters. I care deeply about you and want what’s best for you. Your happiness should be your top priority; else, why bother living your life at all?
“I believe that many individuals stay in relationships because they devote so much time and energy to it, and they keep waiting for new outcomes thinking, ‘Once this happens, it’ll change. Things will change for the better once we get engaged, married, and have children,” she went on. The “big item” isn’t always necessary. Katie affirmed that this was the situation for her and Blake, whose breakup was not precipitated by a single major event.
As I see it, a lot of people are wondering, “Well, what actually happened?” Katie and Blake—the what’s big deal?'” she asked. We dated for a total of six months. We share a great deal of maturity and equanimity, and we are able to discuss complex ideas clearly and openly. After six months of this, we realized it wasn’t in either of our interests to remain together, and as was already indicated, we made the decision to split up amicably. Katie stated that she and Blake “still stay in touch” and “support one other,” adding that “there is nothing but love and respect” between them.
After Their Engagement, Both Couples Are Deciding Got Breakup
She explained that it’s difficult to get over since others will always wonder if the two of you are truly in love with each other. For the benefit of your critics, know that I envy your good fortune in finding your soul mate on the first try. Breaking up is nothing new, and neither is calling it quits on an engagement or a marriage. As Katie talked more about the breakup between her and Blake, she began to cry.
With tears welling in her eyes, she continued, “I think Blake and I were extremely lucky enough to identify things early and [we] made the right option for us.” There will be difficulties associated with that. There have been many emotional waves that we are still working through. I have no idea. It’s a considerable amount. I didn’t think I would [tear]. Of course, that’s a lot. Still, Katie remarked, “at the end of the day, your happiness is what’s essential.”
Did They Become Real-Life Couples?
Even as her voice cracked, she added, “If something is taking something away from you—and that’s not even a shot at Blake, that’s a dig at what he and I were as partners—then we owe it to each other to step away, so that’s what we’re doing.” Her final words in the video were, “I hope to continue to simply get to know you guys as a community of individuals, and show you more of who I am through my lens, not through the lens of a franchise, not through the lens of Blake’s fiancée, but just me, as Katie.”
When I get back into the swing of things, you’ll have a better sense of who I am and what I have to give, I hope… We’re going to get there, she reassured me. I feel like I’m just starting to get my bearings in San Diego. According to Blake, he and Katie “began to have issues” as soon as they became a real-life couple. In addition to the fact that their first vacation together “didn’t meet expectations,” the fact that they spoke different love languages made it difficult for them to connect while Blake was abroad working in Africa.
What Is the Reason for Their Breakup?
It was f**king wonderful, and we fell madly in love on the show. Blake remarked that it was “amazing.” Despite sharing a love of comedy and being true to who you are without apology, we couldn’t be more dissimilar as people. Our personalities are both quite daring and unconventional, which did not seem to blend well in the face of physical separation and daily life. We could have a ton of fun as best friends, but we just aren’t compatible enough to be in a serious relationship.
We soon realized how physically and mentally draining it would be. When you’re in the honeymoon phase of your relationship, “there’s no way we should’ve been in that scenario, feeling the way we were, the strain, and all those things,” he continued. Item obtained. We didn’t know what was going on, it was so bizarre. There was no explanation for why… It all boiled down to the fact that we’re both extremely old souls who have been through their fair share of relationships. We’ll need to undergo a significant personal transformation if we’re serious about making this work.
Announced Their Breakup on Instagram
Katie earlier revealed on Instagram that she and Blake had broken up, giving what appeared to be similar reasons for the split. We dated for a total of six months. She continued, “Blake and I are quite mature and levelheaded, and we communicate very well on our opinions.” Because “if this is how our first six months as a couple was, going forward it was not going to be in our best interest for our happiness to stay together,” as was mentioned,
“We just both knew if this is how our first six months as a couple was, it was not going to be in our best interest for our happiness to stay together.” According to Blake, the relationship finally ended after Katie canceled a visit to see him. She felt it wasn’t a good plan to show up. I promised I’d visit her in San Diego and I did. Not a good idea, in her opinion. I hope I’m not giving the impression that this was all on one side; it was actually quite the opposite. In retrospect, I can say, “…I wasn’t absolutely against [the breakup] because it was unusual at that point. This happened, and it was strange. So when she didn’t fight for it, I didn’t either, but I would have preferred to talk to her face-to-face rather than over FaceTime.
After Their Breakup
The two of us cried together over the phone,” he said. It wasn’t a lot of fun. To put it mildly, it was strange. To put it bluntly, I found it intolerable. Blake expressed his optimism that this development with John would mark “the conclusion” of the saga he and Katie had been experiencing. I really, really, really, hope it works, and that [they] can simply get going. I can’t be emotionally invested any longer. This chaos,” he remarked. The need to cling to the mantra of “no regrets, no regrets” until the bitter end is a source of great frustration for me. What I want is for it to go.
Being on the other side of things has left me feeling let down, but I imagine I let her down as well. Let me be clear: I don’t want anyone’s pity or compassion; I just want to get this out of the way. Okay here. Just the way it is. Blake stated he still wishes Katie “the best,” despite everything that has happened.

Although it would have been nice to have some good memories from that time, he said, “I just want to kind of forget about it now” because of how bad things had gotten.
Katie’s Engagement Was Publicized
It wasn’t meant for us to be this way. That’s something we both know. We may thank our lucky stars that we made that discovery early on and avoided a protracted legal battle. We’re ready to put everything behind us and move on, so I think I’ll just wish her and John the best of luck going forward. The upcoming new chapter. Before Katie’s engagement was publicized, Blake had already stated on the same podcast that his future plans would not include another season of The Bachelor.
In light of everything that has happened, I am not in the least bit ready to go through the ordeal of meeting 30 ladies. I feel like my pride has been shattered at the moment. Because of how things turned out, he said, “I feel like an idiot.” Eventually, I’ll be ready to start dating in the real world. In the end, I just want to find the right one for me. Currently, I have no interest in watching television. It appears chaotic and tiring to me. I don’t know when I’ll be ready to start dating seriously, but when I am, I’ll be out there looking. I refuse to participate in another chase on this sham of a show. I can’t. I simply cannot.”
