Conor McGregor teases MMA retirement before Road House debut ( I’ll be back )

Conor McGregor hinted at retirement. Again…

Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion, went attention-seeking yesterday. Or was it engagement scouting?

After bragging about his bit part in Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House reboot, the 22-6 star decided to hint to MMA fans that he would be leaving the cage for good.

“I’ll never forget you, Mma!” “Easy work,” the Irishman wrote. Few people were taken seriously by the announcement. McGregor has claimed to have retired several times. Many observers also noted that ‘easy work’ was an odd statement, given that McGregor has struggled to win in recent years, going 1-4 in MMA and boxing since his 2016 victory over Eddie Alvarez.

Conor McGregor back to UFC Again

To the surprise of a few, McGregor then announced that he was not leaving the sport of MMA. McGregor declared, “I’ll be back!” in a move that appeared to be designed to capitalize on some old photos with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“I must return,” McGregor continued, accompanied by photos of himself in a cast as a result of his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

McGregor has not competed since that fight. However, it appears that a fully recovered McGregor will return to the ring later this year.

Many of the opponents he was expected to face in his rematch have since moved on to other fights.

Michael Chandler has been scheduled to take on Poirier. Nate Diaz appears to be on his way out of the UFC after completing his contractual obligation to face Khamzat Chimaev. And Charles Oliveira has agreed to a fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title against Islam Makhachev.

Tony Ferguson and Jose Masvidal are two other fighters who have expressed interest in a fight with Notorious.

McGregor’s leg-breaking loss to Poirier last time out followed a separate TKO loss to The Diamond. Those two defeats came a year after a victory over Donald Cerrone.

McGregor’s most recent UFC appearance was a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
