NJ – West Trenton Colonel Patrick J. Callahan announces the untimely passing of retired New Jersey State Police Lieutenant Gerald T. Barbato #2939, who passed away as a result of an illness he received while responding to September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. On January 16, he passed away at his home.
Before retiring in June 2004, Lieutenant Barbato, a member of the 90th State Police Class, worked for 30 years to protect the people of New Jersey.

In addition to his beloved children Gerald T. Jr. and Anne Marie, Gillian Scott and Jeffrey, and Tyler Barbato, as well as his grandchildren Jesse Taylor Scott and Jonah Alexander Scott, Lieutenant Barbato is also survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah Barbato, his siblings Diane, Nancy, Susan, and Marianne, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Age-wise, he was 71.
