Authorities in California have named the suspect in the mass shooting on Saturday that left 10 people dead and 10 others injured in a ballroom during Lunar New Year celebrations. Huu Can Tran, 72, has been named the suspect by Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.
After killing himself in a white van in Torrance, roughly 30 minutes away from the shooting scene in Monterey Park, the suspect was identified hours later. Authorities confirmed that it was the same van that the person who shot on Saturday night used to get away.
Before entering the van earlier on Sunday, law enforcement officers encircled it with tactical vehicles and bomb squad trucks. Luna says that one piece of evidence found in the van was a gun, which linked the suspect to the crime scene.
According to Luna, no other suspects are still at large, and the neighborhood is “no longer under threat.” Authorities claim that the investigation is ongoing but have not given a reason.

Although he was unsure of the victims’ exact ages, he noted that they all seemed to be older than 50.
“What was the shooter’s motivation, which is still a question in my mind?” He was mentally ill, wasn’t he? Was he a perpetrator of domestic abuse?
“How did he obtain these weapons, and was it lawful or not?” At a press conference held outside Monterey Park City Hall on Sunday evening, Congresswoman Judy Chu and Senator Lucy Luna both spoke.
Five ladies and five men were killed in the incident at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, according to Luna, and ten more people were injured. A man with a gun then entered the adjacent Alhambra’s Lai Lai Ballroom 20 to 30 minutes later.
According to Luna, the suspect brought a gun inside the Alhambra club and was confronted by clubgoers, who took the gun from him before he fled.
The majority of the 60,000 residents of Monterey Park, which is on the eastern outskirts of Los Angeles, are Asian immigrants from China or first-generation Asian Americans.
The incident took place in the center of the city’s downtown, where red lanterns had been hung to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Happy Year of the Rabbit! was written on a sizable banner that was positioned close to a police cruiser.
One of California’s biggest festivals is taking place at Monterey Park. An estimated 100,000 individuals had previously attended the two days of activities that were planned.
However, in response to the shooting, authorities called off Sunday’s activities. The incident took place at Star Ballroom Dance Studio, which is located on Garvey Avenue, the major road in Monterey Park.
Garvey Avenue is lined with small shopping centers that have signs in both English and Chinese. Chinese holidays are observed, Cantonese and Mandarin are commonly spoken, and the city frequently hosts screenings of Chinese movies.
