NEW YORK (PIX11) — On Tuesday, officials from the NYPD advocated for it to be mandatory for customers to present their identification before being admitted into companies.
According to the NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, a “condition of entrance” may include the removal of a mask and the provision of identification. After revealing their identities, customers can then ask businesses for permission to put their masks back on.
“We’re seeing far too often where people are coming up to our businesses, sometimes with masks, sometimes with masks, hoods, and latex gloves, and they’re being allowed, they’re being buzzed in and allowed to enter the store, and we have a robbery,” Maddrey said.

According to Maddrey, prior to the COVID outbreak, the majority of companies wouldn’t let customers inside who had their faces covered. Since then, it has evolved into a way of life.
