Usually, people don’t become excited about a new sports anime until right before it premieres. While there is plenty of sports anime out there, Blue Lock is unique. Learn when and where you can watch Blue Lock, as well as its premiere date, studio, and more in our comprehensive guide.
Why Does Blue Lock?
Based on the award-winning manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura (Nomura was an assistant on the Attack on Titan manga), Blue Lock is a shounen anime. The Blue Lock, a prison-like training facility created by instructor Jinpachi Ego, is the central focus of the plot. Jinpachi is hired by the Japanese FA to improve the national team’s performance at the FIFA World Cup. He concludes that Japan needs a narcissistic striker whose only concern is to score goals.
The brightest students in all of Japan’s high schools are invited to attend Blue Lock, a training camp specifically designed for them. There will be just one striker for the Japanese national team, and the rest will be permanently blacklisted. Yoichi Isagi, the protagonist, is a young Japanese boy with international aspirations. But at Blue Lock, he encounters a plethora of mysterious characters who share his drive.
Despite the genre, Blue Lock includes more shounen and action aspects than other sports anime. When compared to the recently released soccer anime, Ao Ashi, Blue Lock’s use of old shounen manga narratives and themes to generate a much greater action-adventure is made clear, and the enthusiasm around the show is understandable.
