The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating the deaths of a man and his dog who were both injured in a fire in downtown Jersey City.
According to a statement released by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the fire department in Jersey City was alerted to a smoke problem at 309 10th St. at 12:11 p.m. on Sunday.
Firefighters from Jersey City entered the single-family home and found an unresponsive guy inside. He was eventually identified as Scot Rienecker, 50, also from Jersey City.
On Monday, February 20th, at around 8:28 p.m., he passed away in the Burn Unit at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, after having been taken there by EMS from Jersey City Medical Center. Unfortunately, his dog perished in the blaze as well.
As of yesterday afternoon, his health was reported by authorities as serious but stable.
Rienecker’s most recognizable role was as the voice of the cartoon character “Goat” in 21 episodes of “Downtown” and “Megas XLR,” as documented on the website IMDB.
Their synopsis of Megas XLR goes something like this: “Two lazy teenagers discover a mecha from the future that has been sitting in a New Jersey junkyard for nearly 60 years and make modifications much to the dismay of the robot’s handsome designer.”
