For us, an ideal summer evening as a family consisted of a day at the beach followed by dinner at the Avon Pavilion when my children were little.
And on occasion over the years, my husband and I have had a romantic stroll along the beachfront and a delicious supper at the Avon Pavilion.

There are so many happy times spent there that it pains me to write this.
There is no longer a pavilion in Avon.
You really have to be there to understand, but I’ll do my best to describe it.
This is the kind of place that holds a special place in the hearts of everyone.
The Avon Pavilion, which has been in the same family for 33 years, served as a destination for many people on the Jersey Shore.
The cuisine at AvPav, as the regulars call it, was fantastic, and the service was friendly and personal (and treated YOU like family).

You could dine in comfort or grab a quick snack at one of the restaurant’s walk-up windows from the boardwalk.
I knew the Fishman family, and the proprietors (didn’t we all? ), and I knew how much they valued providing a one-of-a-kind experience to each and every one of their customers.
New Jersey has many eateries open along the beaches, but this one in Avon was the best.
Not that anyone would have gone with another option. Imagine the joy you would feel if you spent the best day of summer with your loved ones.
That’s how those of us with fond recollections of the Avon Pavilion remember it.

It’s the kind of location where, “If you know, you know.”
But if you’ve ever eaten at the Avon Pavilion, you don’t need me to describe it.
Borough of Avon will soon accept bids from the general public to lease the restaurant and clothing store, per their Facebook page.

The property owners on the lovely Avon-by-the-Sea promenade “sincerely hope” that their new tenant “cherishes the beautiful town and community as much as we have.”
Guests, friends, and AvPav family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news that the Avon Pavilion will be closing its doors after 33 great and beautiful years.
Sad to say, my heart is heavy.
